Director Pastoral
Brent has been involved in training since the late ’80s from having his own trainees in the golf course industry to managing a team of training advisors dedicated to helping people of all ages and backgrounds achieve success in their chosen industry, and now is the pastoral manager of Invest Training Solutions.
Starting out as an apprentice himself Brent has first hand experience of what success looks like when training is doing what it should do, helping trainees achieve with guidance, shared knowledge, and sometimes a gentle reminder of what the end goal can bring for those successful trainees.
With some years’ experience training apprentices Brent was asked to train to be a Moderator within the Sports Turf industry, effectively assessing the assessors of trainees. Along with a group of dedicated tradespeople throughout the country Brent fulfilled this role voluntarily for 14 years until an offer to become a Training Advisor for the Hort ITO could not be resisted.
After three successful years in this role Brent became the Northern Regional manager for this ITO before the merge of the Hort, Ag, and Sports Turf ITO’s which saw an enlarged group covering nearly all sectors of the Primary Industries with Brent as their manager, achieving great success with the heart of training, pastoral care to the forefront of the Training Advisors role.
In 2017 Grant and Brent began looking at approaching training from the point of view of not only the trainees success but the companies benefit of this success and how that would look in terms of the companies future needs and growth.
From this move Grant and Brent created Invest in the certainty that their experience would benefit many companies and their staff in achieving success for both.

Director Business Development
As a team leader, manager and business owner Grant has experienced first-hand the pressure that comes when trying to locate skilled staff to fill roles or trying to work through the options when setting out on training pathways and meeting training requirements – all whilst maintaining effective productivity and continuity.
As the Invest Business Development Manager Grant keeps that experience foremost in his mind when working with employers, managers and potential trainees to develop relevant plans and pathways to ensure goals are met for all parties.
In a career that started as an apprentice golf course greenkeeper, Grant has empathy for trainees after his own experiences in a new workplace and understands the support required at all levels inside working environments.
After having a several successful trainees while running a turf contracting business Grant became involved in the organisation side of training when he joined the Horticulture ITO in 2004.
From his time as a Training Advisor through to roles as Corporate Accounts and Business Development Manager for the merged Primary ITO Grant’s passion remains as strong as ever to see people have their skills recognised, to grow and learn benefiting all aspects of their life through that recognised formal training pathways can bring to individuals as well as the management team and businesses involved.

Having a point of contact to support students face to face, is of great value and it is a pleasure to guide people through their learning experience ensuring they reach their goals.
As an Apprentice I completed a Trade Certificate Amenity and Turf Management and then onto Lincoln University to carry on studying in Horticulture and Management, so I know what it is like to study whilst working and then being a poor student!
My working life has been varied with several years’ experience in operations, management, service delivery and training and development, with a twist of HR, gained while working mainly in the Horticulture and other Primary Industries, Industry Associations, Schools, Polytechnics and Private Training Establishments as well as some community sectors primarily in the South Island.
I Absolutely believe in the power of education, no matter what level you are working at, or how it is achieved, either through a University, Polytechnic or an Apprenticeship - we all get there in the end with the support of a mentor, working towards an individual’s learning style as no one shoe fits all.
